Individuals should not be allowed to carry guns. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Some people argue that we should prohibit citizens from possessing guns. I totally agree with this view.

I am of opinion that providing everyone with access to guns could potentially lead to less-than-desire consequences. The first reason is that the presence of firearms in the house might threaten survival and safety of family members and even bystanders. For instance, a child might think a gun as a toy and unintentionally shot himself or a person visiting their friend’s house at night could be mistakenly shot dead because the householder might believe that he was an intruder. Another reason is that although advocates of gun ownership contend that guns could be used effectively in legitimate defense situations, they underestimate the danger when those weapons are fallen into hands of criminals and especially terrorists. Indeed, the recent mass shootings in France and America, which killed and injured many innocent citizens, remind us again about the negative outcome of gun ownership.

I believe that governments should put a ban on gun ownership because it would bring greater benefits to society as a whole. Firstly, it is no doubt clear that criminals would have less opportunity to possess firearms, resulting in a lower rate of crime. The clearest example of this is that countries that have strict gun control laws such as Vietnam or the United Kingdom have significantly less violent crimes than countries such as the United States where guns are still easily accessible. Secondly, gun control would help governments reduce remarkable societal costs associated with gun violence such as life insurance, medical care expenditure for injured victims or policing costs for the protection of the public. The fund could thus be allocated to pressing issues such as education or housing shortage.

In conclusion, I would argue that the possession of guns should be outlawed because of the potential danger stemming from the proliferation of gun crimes and great benefits this policy brings to our society.

Tôi cho rằng việc cho phép mọi người tiếp cận với súng sẽ có khả năng dẫn tới những hậu quả không mong muốn. Lý do thứ nhất đó là sự hiện diện của vũ khí trong nhà có khả năng đe dọa sự an toàn và tính mạng của người thân trong gia đình và thậm chí là những người xung quanh. Chẳng hạn, một đứa trẻ có thể nghĩ rằng khẩu súng là một đồ chơi và có thể vô ý tự bắn chính mình hay là một người tới thăm nhà bạn vào ban đêm có thể bị bắn nhầm vì chủ nhà nghĩ rằng anh ta là một kẻ đột nhập. Lý do khác là mặc dù những người ủng hộ cho việc sở hữu sung tranh luận rằng súng có thể dùng một cách hiệu quả trong những trường hợp bảo vệ chính đáng, họ đã đánh giá thấp nguy hiểm khi những vũ khí đó rơi vào tay của những tên tội phạm và đặc biệt là khủng bố. Đúng vậy, những vụ xả súng gần đây ở Pháp và Mỹ, gây ra cái chết và làm bị thương nhiều công dân vô tội, một lần nữa nhắc chúng ta về mặt tiêu cực của sở hữu súng.

Tôi tin rằng các chính phủ nên cấm sở hữu súng vì chính sách này đem lại nhiều lợi ích cho xã hội. Thứ nhất, rõ ràng rằng các tên tội phạm sẽ ít có cơ hội sở hữu súng hơn, làm giảm tỉ lệ tội phạm. Ví dụ rõ ràng nhất của điều này đó là những nước có chính sách kiểm soát súng chặt chẽ như Việt Nam hay Anh có tỉ lệ tội phạm bạo lực ít hơn đáng kể so với những nước như Mỹ, nơi vẫn còn dễ dàng tiếp cận tới súng. Thứ hai, việc kiểm soát súng cũng giúp chính phủ giảm đáng kể những chi phí xã hội liên quan đến bạo lực dùng súng như bảo hiểm nhân thọ, y tế, các dịch vụ pháp lý, cảnh sát, và . Nguồn quỹ từ đó  được phân bổ sang những vấn đề cấp bách như giáo dục, thiếu nhà ở.

Tóm lại, tôi lập luận rằng sự sở hữu súng nên được cấm vì nguy cơ nguy hiểm từ việc gia tăng sử dụng súng và những lợi ích lớn mà chính sách này đem lại.
